Pros & Cons of Different Countertops

Thinking about doing a kitchen renovation?  Knowing the different options for countertops can definitely help the process!

Granite  Pros: Heat resistant, scratch resistant, many options, some lower end granite is cheaper than high end laminate

Cons: Expensive repairs, can be costly

Laminate  Pros: Most affordable, easy to clean, lots of options, easy DIY, water resistant

Cons: May have visible seams, susceptible to scratches, may be damaged by exposure to heat

Quartz  Pros: Protects against bacteria and germs, low maintenance and easy to clean, heat-stain-scratch resistant,

                Cons: Color can fade if exposed to UV light, excessive heat could cause damage, may have visible seams

Butcher Block  Pros: Easy fix for scratches/nicks through sanding, environmentally friendly,

Cons: Must be treated with mineral oil coating to remain water resistant, sensitive to heat, could crack

Solid Surface  Pros: Easy to clean/disinfect, easy repair, wide variety, can also be used for sinks and backsplashes

Cons: May scratch, less heat resistant than other options
